From CEO of a globally recognised spa product company, to branching out to create her own brand of products, to her work as a wellbeing practitioner Aphra brings a wealth of experience to her work with Instil.
Aphra’s background has been predominately in the spa industry, working, as a co-owner in the manufacturing, wholesale, distribution and sales of a globally recognised product company, LI’TYA.
Fifteen years with LI’TYA gave her experience in every aspect of an SME (Small to Medium Sized Enterprise) from her roles in distribution and procurement, to marketing and PR, business and product development, finance, administration, human resources, training, management and as CEO.
After some years working in Product Development Aphra was inspired to begin her own product line and in 2013 she began Instil. Working directly with the product meant that there was no compromise in how the products were made:
“So much of the skin care industry in based on latest trends and in that the art of alchemy gets lost. Choosing which ingredients you use and understanding how they infuse with and ‘play’ with each other is the key to getting the Harmony in the Jar.
At the heart of Instil is a love of creating inspired products that will truly support your innate beauty.
Aphra has a genuine care for people and a passion for humanity, bringing a natural focus to womens health and well-being, self esteem and true worth.
“Jody and I work with conscious presence, we don’t rush when we are making products and we make sure we are not dollar driven, we really have fun and enjoy the process of blending and putting our product together and you can tell it makes a difference in the end result.
Jody has been working in the spa and beauty industries since she was 20 years old. In her work as a spa product trainer at LITYA she travelled extensively working with day spas in Europe and around the world. In early 2000 she was at the forefront of the rise of the day spa industry in Australia at that time managing Mizu Spa which would later become the iconic Peninsula Hot Springs at Mornington Peninsula. After a number of management positions Jody opened her own Spa which she co-owned and operated for some years.
Originally training in Beauty Therapy Jody soon learnt she also had another great love– her amazing sense for scents, “I began my career in beauty therapy with the desire to help others with their skin, and from here I continued my studies in various styles of massage and aromatherapy.
I have always had a love for flowers and nature and I can remember as a little girl, being walked through beautiful gardens, stopping and smelling everything along the way.
That love of the natural and pure scents from flowers never left her and as she started to work with perfumes she became very aware of what it is that makes a beautiful and memorable scent.
“While I love many perfumes sometimes I find they smell like chemicals rather than the essence of the perfume. And then many of them simply smell the same, ‘like a 16 year old girl.’
A trip to the Cinque Terre region in Italy inspired Jody of the potential and health benefits of natural perfumes made only from pure essential oils. From here she has further invested her time in studying natural perfume making and is enjoying the process of developing her ‘nose’.
As a spa product trainer Jody had previously began studying Cosmetic Chemistry to understand how the products were made. Combining her love of scents with her interest in chemistry today Jody enjoys making signature blends and products that reflect the unique needs of each client:
It has become clear to me that it’s important for a product to reflect the area and people upon which they are made and also used. Uniqueness is the key. At Instil we work to give the product a select alchemy and scent memory, which represents the essence of the range.
